At Sunnywell, we’re proud to offer affordable custom orthotics to our customers. That said, we understand that many people may be confused by what we’re offering. What are orthotics, and when is it useful to get a custom pair?
In this article, we’ll endeavor to answer some of the most frequently asked questions that we hear. We hope this helps you as you embark on your journey to foot pain relief.
When Are Custom Orthotics Necessary?
An orthosis is something inserted into your shoes, in order to help with a problem you’re having in your foot or spine. It can help change your gait or the location where pressure is being applied to your foot.
In some situations, you may be able to get over-the-counter orthotics. However, there are a few major disadvantages to this strategy.
The first is that over-the-counter orthotics aren’t designed specifically for your feet, which means they may not specifically address your problem to the degree that custom orthotics would. As well, the quality of custom orthotics means that they tend to last longer than orthotics that you would buy over the counter.
Do You Need Bigger Shoes For Orthotics?
Custom orthotics are typically designed to replace the insoles of the shoes you’re currently wearing. For this reason, you won’t necessarily need to get new shoes, even if the orthotic does take up space.
That said, you’ll want to see how the orthotics feel once you’ve tried them on. Orthotics don’t feel exactly the same as insoles, since their shape is specifically designed to assist your foot or spine.
How Long Does It Take To Adjust To A New Orthotic?
If you have any concerns, it’s worth speaking to an orthotic professional ahead of time. However, it’s often sufficient to just pay attention to the way your body’s feeling. Some people will be able to wear their orthotics regularly from the start, while others may want to steadily increase the amount of time they spend in their orthotics.
